CUORE BATTENTE/ THE BEATING HEART

From the point of view of geographical positioning, I believe that this district is located in the center of the surface of the city, representing a sort of beating heart that feeds its arteries and veins. Its high density and the numerous opportunities it offers, in my opinion, make it a vital hub. Every road that crosses this district seems to act as a vein that leads directly to the historic center of Durres. These streets are connected to each other like the right and left arteries of a heart, highlighting a direct connection between the suburbs, the center and roads that connect other cities through "Unaza Madhe" and "Unaza Vogel". Metaphorically speaking, we could associate the anatomical side of the heart with all the opportunities this neighborhood has to offer.
ABSTRACT

The city of Durres, located on the coast of Albania, is an immersive destination offering a combination of history, culture and natural beauty. With a history dating back over 2,500 years, Durres is one of the oldest cities in Albania and has "played" a significant role over the centuries.
From this point of view it has been one of the cities that has gained momentum in tourism and development in recent years, but some of its main districts are not very developed on an urban scale.
The present thesis work develops an urban regeneration strategy through tactical urban planning, focusing in one of the densest districts of Durres, District 18 or otherwise known as the Stadium District, a significant contradiction emerges: despite being located in the heart of the city, it has not yet been able to fully exploit its potential for the residents who live there.
The project aims to retake neighborhood streets, transform lives and re-evaluate the human connections that are central to happiness. Through tactical urban planning, you will adopt creative, innovative and temporary solutions to improve the appearance of the streets and make the whole neighborhood more functional and organized, becoming inclined to showcase all that it has to offer. The use of colors will be an integral part of this strategy, as it will help give a new visual identity to the streets, giving them originality and vitality. In addition, cycle paths will be built, encouraging sustainable mobility and promoting an active and healthy lifestyle for residents.
The thesis work tries to bring this neighborhood back to its "glorious past", as one of the noisiest neighborhoods in the city and the first choice for every resident.
CONCLUSIONS

The design choices adopted were based on an in-depth analysis of the urban environment of District 18 as a whole, which explored its economic, social, historical-cultural characteristics, as well as information regarding ongoing or recently completed development processes.
However, it is important to underline that the analyzed material is susceptible to variations over time and will have to be integrated with new studies and considerations. This is especially true due to ongoing economic, environmental and health changes that will have a significant impact on this neighbourhood.
Through this thesis work, we have tried to outline flexible guidelines for the regeneration of the large portions of District 18, while preserving its originality.
Through this renewed awareness and the adoption of tactical urban planning tactics, the aim is to create a scenario in which District 18 can regenerate while maintaining its unique character. This implies a combination of targeted interventions that take into account the social, cultural, natural and economic dimensions, so that the neighborhood can thrive and adapt to the challenges and changes of the urban context.
The proposal presented therefore offers a first contribution to solving the problems of the neighbourhood, initiating a "SHORT TERM ACTION - LONG TERM CHANGE" urban regeneration process which is a starting point for other realities and which is able to respond actively to future changes.
